Keeping the track safe

Keeping the track safe

Something felt different at the F1 races this year. It was hot. And I was sweaty!

What a big change from the air-conditioned hospitality suite I enjoyed last year. No matter. I still managed to have a good time. Just, not quite as good.

One bonus. The track location.

Rather than being situated along a random corner, I sat directly across from Pit Lane. Right where all the action happens.

Another bonus. Experiencing all the non-race sights.

I’d like to say sounds too. But, even with earplugs, it was almost deafening at times. So, let’s just stick to sights.

People watching seemed way more fun. The crowd in the grandstands felt more authentic than all the corporate mojos.

Watching the pit crews refuel the cars and change the tires was amazing. About twenty people working in perfect harmony for less than ten seconds.

For those of you counting, that’s exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds longer than Jiffy Lube.

And watching the people supporting the race was fun too. I can’t believe they weren’t melting in those suits and protective gear. And, I was complaining while wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

After five years of playing fantasy football, I’ve finally taken first place. And it’s about time! You’d think that with all my invested effort year after year, I’d do better than my annual standing in the middle of the pack. But, no. Well this season was different. And…

I think I’ve figured out the secret recipe for FFB success:

  • 2 cups of moving to South-East Asia
  • 1 cup of not watching a single NFL game
  • ½ cup of secret website offering fantasy football advice
  • 3 heaping tablespoons of drafting team completely jet-lagged
  • 1 tablespoon of overcoming injuries to draft picks #1, #3 & #8
  • 15 ounces of staying up way too late on Sundays (Asia time) setting lineups
  • 1 teaspoon of endlessly watching stat-tracker tick, tick, tick
  • ½ teaspoon of getting player news before everyone on West coast
  • A pinch of good luck

Mix all ingredients and pour into pressure cooker. Bake for five months.

Poooor Griz. The Ducks took them to school today. It was clear from the opening kickoff Montana was in trouble when Oregon ran it back 83 yards for a touchdown. It was all downhill from there.
